Solar Hot Water - Installing a solar hot water system can reduce your electric bill by storing hot water made during sunlight hours for later consumption. Water is heated by solar collectors mounted on the roof and stored in a tank. Solar storage tanks come equipped with back up electric power to compensate for overcast or rainy days. You could save $15-$20 or more per household occupant per month on your electric bill. Solar hot water systems may also be eligible for a $750 instant rebate from the Hawaii Energy Efficiency Program. There is also a 30% Federal tax credit and a 35% State tax credit (maximum State credit $2250) for installing a hot water system on your home.
